About the Seeing Dogs Alliance
Originally founded in 1979 to provide mobility training and guide dogs, the charity has been in operation only on a limited basis.
During 2002, The Seeing Dogs Alliance was relaunched with the sole aim of providing an alternative source of dogs to guide blind people.
Guide Dog Owners and their families are running the charity. All seeing dogs and seeing dog puppies are being raised and trained whilst living in a home environment.
Who Are Our Customers?
For 70 years blind people in the UK had only one source of guide dogs. Now another option is available: The Seeing Dogs Alliance provides a choice.
The Seeing Dogs Alliance would be pleased to hear from anyone wanting to achieve or maintain personal mobility with a professionally trained dog, whilst remaining truly independent.
What Are Our Plans?
The Seeing Dogs Alliance anticipates that demand will exceed supply in these early days. However, more can be achieved as funding increases. The aim is to provide fully trained dogs and personalised tuition for new owners, in order to build effective partnerships.
Training will be carried out in the home area with back-up facilities arranged as required.
The Seeing Dogs Alliance strongly believes that the charitable funds should be focused on the provision of seeing dogs, whose upkeep and welfare will thereafter be the responsibility of their new owners.
How Can You Help?
As a simple, charitable enterprise we do not receive any State support, so our prime need is for funds.
We wish to establish a volunteer workforce to raise money, spread the word, seek sponsorship (in cash and kind) and to rear and socialise puppies and adult dogs.
